Wednesday was another beautiful February day. The Polk Central girls and Tryon boys won their first round games in the District Playoffs and play tonight at Tuscola. Both schools play Edneyville The Polk Central girls play at 6:30 and the boys at 8:30. The Tryon Little Theater production’. "The Moon Is Blue" opens tonight at 8:30 at the Fine Arts Center It will also be given Friday and Saturday nights at 8:30, but tickets are getting scarce for Friday and Saturday. Tonight at 7 o'clock the Tryon Town Council is holding a hearing on the redistribution of the Tryon ABC Store profits, so that Harmon Field will get more. Mrs Della H. Jackson has written a booklet "Special Approaches For Sunday School In Small Churches." Mrs. Jackson is District Superintendent of Church Schools fo Winston-Salem-Greenville District of the C.M.E. Churches. She retired from teaching in 1969 after 42 years, but has never been idle. C. 28782 Competing In Teenage Talent Twenty-three acts comprised of some of this area s best teenage talent will be showcased this Saturday in the Asheville Civic Center's Thomas Wolfe Auditorium The second WNC Talent Award Show will have teenagers from nine area cities and towns competing in five categories. One of the groups is The Soul Conspirers of Polk Central High School. Members of The Soul Conspirers arc Carolyn Hines, Larry Logan, Wanda Logan and Shalana May. Show time is 7:30 p.m. Car Stolen A 1980 Fiesta Ford was stolen Tuesday afternoon at Tryon Motors, Inc The thief was looking at the car and asked to take a drive in it. While Steve Frazier went inside to get a tag, the man drove away and hasn't been seen since. Baptist Fellowship At Lynn 1st Baptist Grace Independent Baptist Fellowship will be held at the Lynn First Baptist Church Monday, March 2nd. Pastors, Evangelists and Missionaries will be present. The services will begin at 1 p.m. and the evening service is at 7 p.m. Rev. Herb Putnam is pastor of the host church. THURSDAY, FEB. 2G. 1981 At 1st State Promoted Mitchell D. Waters was promoted to Lance Corporal last week in Yorktown, Virginia where he is stationed with the 2nd platoon. He was graduated as Private 1st Class last May in Paris Island where he was 6th in his platoon. He then went to Camp Pendleton for six weeks before coming to Yorktown Naval Weapon Station where he will be for John F. Rountree First State Savings & Loan Association has announced that John F. Rountree has assumed the position of branch manager of their Landrum office. Mr. Rountree is a native of Union, S. C. and is a 1973 graduate of Wofford College with a BA degree. He has completed several American Institute of Banking courses and was formerly with First National Bank of South Carolina. He is active in community affairs and is presently a vice president of the Landrum Lions Club, a member of the Landrum PTA, the Landrum Athletic Booster Club, Landrum Youth Sports Program and the American Institute of Banking. He serves as treasurer and Sunday School teacher of the Landrum United Methodist Church. He has formerly served as United Way Campaign Chairman for Landrum. Beginning Guitar A class in Beginning Guitar is being offered by Isothermal Community College. The 11 week course will start Thursday, March 12 at Stearns School in Columbus, and will be held each Thursday evening from 6:30-9:30 pm. Tuition is $9.75 for N.
